Maeve is now Dora! Following is Joanne's sms:
"Just cut Maeve and my hair to a short bob so that it will not be so drastic when it starts falling out. We both look like Dora the Explorer!"

Going Home!!!!!
THE LOW FAMILY IS GOING HOME TODAY!!!!!!
sms from jo goes like this:
" Today test results show Maeve's responding to the chemo. The cancer cells are being killed off! Thank God! We start the full on dose on monday. Will be there for 5 days."
Praise be to God for the chemotherapy which is working within Maeve's body!
Hi everyone, if you're thinking of buying anything for Maeve, apart from toys and books, just be cautioned that food, snacks and drinks have to be in single serves so as to minimise the introduction and presence of bacteria in the food that she ingests! :)
If you're looking at how you can help support the family during this period, activity books etc are welcomed to occupy Maeve's time at home. And of course, if you have a good way with children, you may offer your time to play with Maeve since we all know she is such an active girl and also to free up the parents for a while. :D
Do make sure that you're in the pink of health if you're intending to visit as Maeve's immune system will be very weak due to the chemotherapy. Thank you all!

forgiveness
Yesterday's sermon was a wonderful lesson on forgiveness. I know that i was meant to listen to it as I've been praying about the issue of forgiveness and have been struggling with it. Not in the sense that i find it hard to forgive, but that I'm bad at forgetting, which i guess accounts to the same thing. Anyway, Paige chose the start of the sermon to nurse, so while nursing, i could listen to the sermon uninterrupted. The sermon was about how Jesus restored Peter after his resurrection and forgave him for denying him. Jesus didn't harp on the issue (i do), he didn't ask "why did you..?" (i do), he didn't say "how can i trust you?" (i do) but he repeated "do you love me?" 3 times and then restored Peter. I've been asking God of late, how does one keep forgiving the same crime multiple times a day (as all parents have to)without losing one's temper or getting discouraged. How does one remain impassionate and calm when you want to scream "once again, you did not listen to me!!" or "how many times have i told you not to..". whenever i read the question that was asked of Jesus, "how many times must i forgive my neighbour?", I always smile, knowing that my neighbours will never wrong me 77 times 7 times! That is, until i had kids, then the truth of the statement becomes crystal. So when for the 7th time, i've got to admonish my preschooler, "how many times must I.." i remember Jesus' words. to forgive and forgive and keep on forgiving. With a smile. Its hard to be the adult sometimes when all i want to do is throw a tantrum too and glare at my misbehaving child. Today I had to park the car in a carpark and pray after sending the little one to school, to ask God to forgive me for my unforgiveness. you see, i failed the test immediately today when i had a procrastinating, whiny child reluctant to go to school and didn't talk to her throughout the car trip as i was seething in anger. Later, I will go and restore my child and forgive her as many times as necessary.

welcome to the circus
Here, at the circus, the main clown performs all sorts and manner of juggling.
One-handed diaper change and simultaneous pulling on of nursery school uniform? check.
Nursing and story-book reading complete with animated voice and action? check.
Rocking and comforting shrieking infant and disciplining tantrum-throwing shrieking pre-schooler? check.
Which leaves main clown very exhausted and ready to fly off on Dumbo's back.
I think I was way over-confident in my first month as a mum-of-2 as Paige was still at the feed and sleep stage. very little crying if at all. HOWEVER, now that she is 7 weeks old and developing her own personality, she needs more attention (I'll shout 3 times, if you don't come, I'll burst into tears) and her big sis is starting to feel the heat of less than 100% attention, which means more smart alecky remarks, challenges, defiance (this morning was "mummy, why don't you cane me for being rude? I'd like to try it")and outright naughtiness. Of course, my little one will always sob and apologise and vow NEVER EVER to do it again, but we know, NEVER take the promises of preschoolers too seriously or you'll be in for a whole year of disappointment.
A few days ago, I really wanted to throw in the towel and return to full-time work. Let someone else handle the kids for the whole day, so that i can just enjoy them when i come home from work. I went out for groceries at night so that i could take a ME-break and seriously contemplated the lure of going back to work. I'll have colleagues, a social life, tea breaks without having to say "please don't use your feet to hold the bread" or similar, lots of money and hence guilt-free spending and yes, fulfilment where work done actually can be accounted for and appraised. However, after much discussion with God, I guess my place is still at home. So now i'm off to pick up the big sis from nursery school and hopefully elicit a big hug and kiss which would make up for all the negativity I've been feeling of late.

Paige
She's 52cm, 3.345kg at birth, probably lots more now, since i'm actually retiring some of her new born clothes. She sleeps like an angel, feeds like a barracuda, coos a lot and hardly cries, unless I've delayed her feeding by a substantial amount of time. She's the spitting image of Maeve when Maeve was born. in other words, once again, my progeny looks exactly like her daddy. She is exactly as we prayed for and we're still in shock that God humoured us and answered our prayers to the T!
As for pregnancy and delivery and the afterwards bit, lets say I'm done for now (although you may want to ask me again in a couple of years when amnesia and old age have set in). I've clearly forgotten just how painful everything is when I asked God to give me another little miracle...and its all rushing back in triple speed. Thank God the bleeding nipples have healed thanks to Paige's ability to drink expressed breastmilk from the bottle (which gave my poor abused boobs a break to heal), and the C wound wasn't any more painful than i remembered, although i really don't want to be cut up again. Funnily enough, my bladder hurts. Why this is so is anyone's guess and i hope its not because they left a pair of scissors or something in me. i hope its just one of those things when you do an operation. some part has to hurt.
The good thing is I've got a confinement nanny this time round, which really makes me the queen bee. it is heaven to be able to pass Paige to her when I'm done nursing at night. no need to change diapers, no need to wash and sterilise the pump, no need to cook or even make my own breakfast...how wonderful is that! So while I'm paying good money for queen bee status, I might as well really just laze in bed with good and easy reads. I'm almost done with the entire collection of jodi picoult paperbacks and now looking for another author whose books i can devour by collection. The wonderful thing about this confinement nanny is she also turned out to be exactly what we prayed for, that is, 7 years experience, speaks english, pretty modern, good sense of humour. We knew we had a match when the agency introduced her as Christine. we all fell in love with her when she smiled and showed her dimples and starting chatting nineteen to the dozen. Even in small things, God is faithful and He honours our prayer requests, no matter how trivial it sounds.
As for Maeve, she's reached almost saint status by the amount of love, care and thoughtfulness she's been showing. I expected a little acting up, a little jealousy or attention-seeking behaviour, which is all natural, but amazingly, zilch. she's been nothing but wonderfully positive (can anyone beat her comment at the hospital, "my sister is the most beautiful girl in the whole world". "more than you?" someone asked in jest. "of course! she's more beautiful!" so says the older one, beaming with pride.), very caring towards me ("mummy, you need to rest in bed because of your operation", "finish up all this red date tea mummy, its good for you") and a real delight in every way.
